Justus von Liebig (Biological Chemistry/1803-1873) was a leading figure in agricultural and biological chemistry. Although a pioneer in the study of fertilizing techniques, Liebig’s lasting legacy is perhaps in scientific education. As a professor at the University of Giessen, Liebig developed the laboratory-based method of teaching science that has become the norm in science classes today. Additional accomplishments by Liebig include the founding of the Liebig Extract of Meat Company and his formation of the Law of Minimum.
