William Playfair (Statistics)

William Playfair (Statistics/1759-1823) was a Scottish engineer who pioneered graphical methods of statistics. His publication The Commercial and Political Atlas; Representing, by Means of Stained Copper-Plate Charts, the Exports, Imports, and General Trade of England, at a Single View included the first of time plots and bar charts. In addition, he created the pie, line, and area charts, methods of data organization still used today.
