Kumail Nanjiani ’01

Kumail Nanjiani (1978-) is a Pakistani-American stand-up comedian and actor. He graduated from Grinnell College in 2001. In 2010, Kumail returned to Grinnell to perform stand-up and speak with Paul Hutchison’s Tutorial on comedy, and he delivered the commencement speech for the graduating class of 2017. He co-wrote and starred in The Big Sick, an autobiographical movie about his relationship with his wife. He has received critical acclaim for his performance on HBO’s Silicon Valley. Additionally, he has voiced various parts in animated shows and appeared on a number of podcasts.
